3-D [three-dee] 

1: a three-dimensional form or appearance

I think you understand what’s going on here, right? It’s a process we are all very familiar with. You have a subject you want to render in 3d for use in your work so you start by taking basic geometric figures and moving the polygons around until they are arranged in a way that mimics the shape of the desired subject. You follow that up by wrapping the geometry in images as you would a gift. Ta-da!
